Who is this guy, anyhow?

In early June, 2010 I was told that I have a high-grade Urothelial Carcinoma (bladder cancer), also known as Transitional Cell Carcinoma or TCC. This sucks, as you can imagine. This is my attempt to capture, record and share my ongoing experiences and thoughts during this time.

More about me, for those who are keeping score: I'm in my mid-40's, caucasian, urban, don't smoke (bladder cancer is even more common among smokers than lung cancer, oddly). I teach, go to grad school, and I have worked as a copywriter, journalist and art director in the past. I'm also a musician when the stars align properly.

On 7/28/11 I learned that I am now classified as having Stage 4 Metastatic Urothelial Carcinoma, with evidence of the disease having spread to the lymph system and to my lungs. This means that the cancer is classified as "incurable" and being in remission or becoming cancer-free is not expected, and would border on the miraculous. Chemo is my friend now, and it will keep the disease as subdued as possible.

When given lemons, one makes lemonade.
